Birthing Pumpkin.

Ever seen a pregnant pumpkin in a hospital gown with carrot fingers? What about a baby pumpkin straddling the edge of womb and world, ready to make its grand entrance through the birth canal? Check out this photo...I don't know where it came from and who's responsible but it's been circulating the internet these past days and I couldn't resist. It's pretty great, right?!! Salutations to the artist's imagination and creative effort. Kudos aside, I'm not so sure about the supine, back-lying position for birthing a baby. I mean, come on, that looks terribly ineffective and uncomfortable. As it turns out, gravity gives women the extra oomph needed to bring their babies into the world with ease and strength. And, squatting increases space in the pelvis. Next year, I might could be inspired to create a follow-up art piece in the vertical plane. Now THAT is something I could get on board with...full speed ahead!
